MIPCOM Cannes 2026 brought the international content business back to the Palais des Festivals from 12 to 15 October. The conversations stretched well beyond programme sales: AI, creator businesses, vertical storytelling and brand partnerships all had a place at the table.
For us at Bulbul, the interesting question is what those shifts mean for the teams coming to Cannes. What deserves attention? What makes a presence memorable? And what should still be working once the stand comes down?
The week at a glance
- A global meeting point: 10,100 delegates, including 3,150 buyers, from 104 countries, according to the organiser.
- AI with practical questions: production, localisation, licensing and creative control.
- More routes to audiences: creators, platforms and vertical stories alongside established television.
- A clear communication task: make the right people understand your offer, in the room and beyond it.

01 / The practical AI conversation
MIPCOM Cannes 2026: AI moves into the workflow
The MIP AI Entertainment Forum put production, localisation, rights and monetisation on the same agenda. That matters: a useful conversation about AI needs to cover how content is made, how it travels and who can use it.
One concrete example in the official day-one report was the potential to license properly prepared footage libraries as training datasets. The same report described Cecilia Shen’s emphasis on human storytelling in AI-assisted filmmaking.

Our takeaway is simple: ask what the tool improves, then ask what still needs human judgement.
- For production: identify the specific task, quality threshold and approval process.
- For international content: keep language, tone and cultural nuance in the review.
- For communications: know the rights behind the assets you publish and keep a clear editorial voice.
For an event team, speed is valuable when the result is ready to use. A faster edit still needs the right name, accurate subtitles, approved messaging and a reason to exist.
02 / Audiences across screens
Distribution is becoming a connected conversation
At MIPCOM Cannes 2026, established television and digital platforms were discussed as parts of a wider audience journey. The day-two coverage highlighted BBC Studios’ approach to reaching communities on platforms such as YouTube, alongside the YouTube–NBCUniversal discussion of distribution and audience growth.
For a brand or content company, that raises a practical question: how does each piece of content help someone take the next step?
- A short clip can introduce a person or an idea.
- An interview can give that idea context.
- A clear destination can turn interest into a conversation.
Planning those uses before the event makes the footage more useful afterwards.

Vertical stories need their own editorial thinking
The official day-three report described microdrama discussions focused on mobile audiences, emotional engagement and narrative hooks. The lesson for event communication is useful too: a vertical frame needs a clear idea from the opening seconds.
We see an opportunity to plan live reels with intention: one insight, one face, one moment worth sharing. A short video should feel complete, even when it leads to a longer story.
03 / Brands in the content conversation
Partnerships start with a shared story
MIPCOM’s closing announcement identified brands, AI, verticals and creators as growth areas. The introduction of MIP BrandWorks, with dentsu as its first headline partner, brought brands and agencies closer to producers, studios and creators.
Our reading: a useful partnership begins with a credible fit between the story, the audience and the brand. The event presence should make that fit easy to understand.
- Lead with a clear proposition. What are you bringing to the conversation?
- Give people something specific to remember. A title, a point of view or a well-presented encounter.
- Prepare the follow-through. The recap, images and next conversation should feel connected.
04 / A presence people can read
What a stand communicates before the meeting
The ARTE space pictured here offers a clear visual example: a recognisable orange identity, programme artwork at eye level and tables arranged for conversation. Visitors can understand the brand and see where to sit without needing an explanation.
That is our editorial reading of the space. The useful principle travels well: strong event design helps people recognise, approach and engage.
- Recognition: a coherent identity across the space.
- Content: visible titles and imagery that give the conversation a starting point.
- Hospitality: a setting that makes a meeting feel natural.
We explored the same relationship between place and brand in our Cannes Lions 2026 activation analysis ↗. At MIPCOM, the setting serves the rhythm of a content market: meetings, introductions and ongoing relationships.

Make the week useful beyond the Croisette
MIPCOM Cannes 2026 reinforced the value of a presence that works on several levels: people can meet you, understand you and find a clear story to share afterwards.
Bulbul supports participating teams with MIPCOM event coverage and on-the-ground support in Cannes. We work around your priorities, whether you are bringing a delegation, presenting a slate, hosting a reception or meeting partners.

- VIP photography and video: portraits, key meetings and important moments, captured with care.
- Live social content and reels: timely edits designed for your channels and approval process.
- Hero videos: a considered film that brings together the atmosphere, people and purpose of your presence.
- Local coordination: bilingual support, meeting summaries and stand coordination to help your team stay focused.
- Receptions and activations: support for the moments where the setting and the welcome matter.
Before the week starts, we define the moments that matter, who approves the content and where each asset will be used. During the market, that preparation leaves more room for the conversations you came to Cannes to have.
A good event presence gives people something clear to remember — and something useful to return to.
