78th Cannes Film Festival
This year, Bulbul had the pleasure of attending the 78th Cannes Film Festival — where cinema, elegance, and storytelling converge under the Mediterranean sun. From the Croisette to the Carlton, down to the Martinez, Cannes remains that singular place where anyone can cross paths with a star — or become one.
We’re happy to share this short video capturing the festival as we lived it. It was created as part of an official Festival competition — a unique experience we’re proud to have been part of. We hope you enjoy it…
The 78th edition was a true celebration of cinema’s greatest icons. Tom Cruise unveiled the new Mission Impossible, Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino opened the festival, and Robert De Niro made a grand return after serving as jury president back in 2011. The Croisette shone with legends.
We were lucky enough to attend screenings of this year’s award-winning films: A Simple Accident by Jafar Panahi received the Palme d’Or — a devastating work of rare political power. Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier took the Grand Prix, moving audiences with its raw emotional depth. And many others that left a lasting impression.
One of the most memorable moments was the world premiere of Honey Don’t!, directed by Ethan Coen, starring Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day and Chris Evans. Experiencing the screening alongside the cast and crew was electric. The film closed the festival as an out-of-competition gem.
Cannes also reminded us that cinema is in the midst of profound transformation. With sessions on AI in filmmaking and “The Cinema of Tomorrow,” it’s inspiring to see such a prestigious event adapt, question, and even shape the conversation around new technologies and new storytelling tools.
Another defining thread of this year: the prevalence of films denouncing authoritarian regimes. A Simple Accident, the Palme d’Or winner, stands as its strongest example. The moment Juliette Binoche — jury president and long-time advocate for Jafar Panahi — handed him the award, fifteen years after he was banned from attending the festival, will remain etched in history.
This year’s Cannes delivered a clear message: hope belongs to those who persist.
